Bridging the Gap to a Full Smile

When people lose a tooth to disease or injury, it has a tremendous impact on their life. Teeth enable us to chew, obviously, but they also help facilitate speech and keep our face shape constant. A missing tooth can harm self-confidence and even lead to other dental issues. Bridging the gap with a dental bridge is one way to have a full smile again.

A dental bridge is one of the treatments offered at Paul Neumann, DDS for patients with missing teeth. Bridges are appliances made from materials like porcelain and gold, and integrate seamlessly with existing teeth. It is formed by a false tooth or teeth, called pontics, anchored by two or more crowns that cap existing teeth.

To create your bridge, impressions will be taken of your own teeth to form the models for the crowns and pontics. The teeth that will house the crowns, or the abutment teeth, are recontoured so the crowns will fit. When the bridge is ready to be installed, everything is checked and adjusted so that the appliance fits correctly. After everything is settled, the bridge is cemented into place.

After your bridge procedure is complete, you will notice greater ease in chewing, swallowing, and speaking. You should stick with softer foods until you are more accustomed to it, though. Be sure to keep the bridge and your remaining natural teeth well-cared for, since tooth decay and gum disease can lead to further tooth loss.

Schedule a consultation with Dr Paul Neumann to see if a dental bridge is the right solution for your missing teeth. Our office in Plaquemine, Louisiana, is ready to help you get your smile back.
